Journal History

We’ve come across so many amazing speed painting videos on Youtube recently and decided to share them with you. ‘Cause you know, it would be absolutely inappropriate if we kept them for ourselves! :) Sit back and enjoy the beauty.

Sleeping girl speed painting by @Reza Abghari - so much joy, so few views! Definitely worth watching:

Breath-taking horse speed paint by @thefrozenbunny - will always be one of our favorite:

and another one from this talented artist - portrait of Jacob Frye from Assassin’s Creed Syndicate:

Love the line work? Look how @Tearhex Duke colored his lines in Rebelle:

Looks like @Jeeb Ishak had so much fun in the older Rebelle version:

Have you made your own speed painting video in Rebelle? Don’t hesitate for a moment - send it over and get featured!

Great news, our friends!

After getting to the finale of European IT Awards which we enjoyed immensely, we’ve got an eye and soul pleasing announcement from Hermes Creative Awards. We joined this well-established international competition for creative professionals with our Rebelle and Amberlight 2 software some time ago and hoped for the best.

And now, we’re pleased to tell you that both programs succeded and were recognized for excellence and innovation in their category.

Following awards were received:

Platinum for Rebelle (Category 194c. - Application Software/Innovation/Painting)

image

Gold for Amberlight 2 (Category 194c.- Application Software/Innovation/Motion Graphics)

Being a Platinum or Gold Winner is a tremendous achievement as there were about 6,000 entries from all over the world and only about 15% of the entries won this award. We feel honored to have our work praised by some of the best in the biz.

To see all Gold and Platinum Winners in 2016 please visit Hermes Creative Awards.

Escape Motions is a small studio of creatives and coders dedicated to develop innovative visual tools. We experiment with interactive art, new media and code to find a new expression and bring new experience for artists and designers who want to stand out from the crowd.

This is why our Flame Painter, Amberlight and Rebelle were born.

Flame Painter is a unique paint program that lets you create original artworks, light effects or unconventional design with procedural brushes.

Amberlight is for digital artists who love to experiment with beautiful computer generated images and animations.

Our newest tool Rebelle is a one-of-a-kind painting software whose watercolor simulation is based on a real-world color mixing, blending, wet-diffusion, and drying.

Yeah! So far, Rebelle is a great program. It really simulates real life brushstrokes like no other software has done. It's really great. It's my go to when I am in the mood to do self portraits :) But there are problems with it. Like the lag that happens randomly. I had so little layers in there so I don't think it should lag.

Also, I noticed that Rebelle can't move and transform images when placed in there. I would like that to be an option, because sometimes I like to have photos at certain places.

I can't seem to find the option to change canvas sizes. Is that not a thing yet in Rebelle? I can choose a size when I start the program, I know that, but what if I wanted to increase or decrease the size of the canvas midway the project? I kinda like that to be an option.

Other than that, I seem fine with it. Keep up the good work.

PS: At some point, do you mind adding an oil brush as an option alongside watercolor and acrylic?

Thanks for your king words!
Lagging may be caused by very large canvas, large brush size or a huge amount of water on the canvas.
A workaround is to use "Fast Dry" or "Dry the Layer" buttons in Layers panel to dry all water, the painting will be faster.

You can move or transform imported images with "Transform" option, unfortunately changing canvas size is not possible.
Oils are not yet implemented to Rebelle (however we plan to).
